Arts for Amnesty - A Celebration of Human Rights

Benat Baharat joins Amnesty International local Group 529 & the AI Washington International School chapter for an inspiring evening of dance, poetry, and musical performances to celebrate human rights on Saturday, April 21. Proceeds will benefit Amnesty International USA, Save Darfur, Journalists for Human Rights.

Benat Baharat is proud to perform in the second annual Dance to Heal, a Pop Raqs benefit belly dance and tribal show for the Coalition for Organ-Failure Solutions (COFS), a non-profit international health and human rights organization to combat organ trafficking.

The show will feature mesmerizing performances by Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin, with outstanding pieces by local and regional soloists and troupes, including Asharah, Belladonna, Benat Baharat, Gypsy Fusion, Pop Raqs, Wendy Youssef and Troupe Arabesque.

Hafla/Student Recital

Benat Baharat is hosting another show and student performance; the last one was so much fun, we had to do it again!

This will include performances by Mina, the Nile Wind Dancers, and Zarbek. And enjoy another glimpse of Sammati, this time performing to live drummers, as well as Elliah. You can't miss this!

And of course, Djelhi ("it must be Djelhi, 'cause jam don't shake like that!"), and the debut of Zalya's Aussie Belly students. (Well, maybe they aren't all Aussies, but she teaches them at the Australian Embassy!) And, did I forget to mention Benat Baharat?

Bellydance Basics Series at Flow Yoga

A fun and spicy infusion of popular & folk dance styles of the Middle East and American flavored belly dance. This series will cover basic steps & rhythms, undulations and American Tribal Style. Appropriate for all levels, this is a great overview of different styles and techniques taught by members of the experimental belly dance troupe Benat Baharat.

Baharat will be performing at the National Conference for Organized Resistance, along with eyeballskeleton (ok, I just wanted to say the name), and loads of other treats!

Rakkasah East!

What can we say... Rakkasah was a blast, as usual! BB performed on Friday to a great crowd, then relaxed for the rest of the weekend to just absorb the incredible performances and do a little shopping. We did take a little break to hoot and holler for Djelhi, performing a couple of fabulous numbers for their first time at Rakkasah!

Crafty Bastards Art Fair

This was a blast! BB performed with Alexis and her students, both doing incredible tribal fusion numbers. BB got the crowd stomping and clapping with Raqs Elvis, and Alexis' tribal fusion pieces were pure trance bliss!

Adam's Morgan Day
